First you say you will and then you won't,
Then you say you do and then you don't...so what are you going to do?
There's an old song with these words and it seems appropriate to Ruined Hearts. Both Melissa and Ethan seem to change their minds often in this supercharged sexual book. First she tries to kill him for murdering her brother. Then he decides she is the perfect submissive. Then she decides she likes being his submissive, but then changes her mind and decides to start a business. Then when she gets hurt, he decides not to pursue the rough play anymore because he loves her. Then she decides she wants the rough play back, but is less than honest with Ethan, so he decides he doesn't love her any more, and back and forth they go.
Through all this runs the fear factor as Melissa's old master tries to kidnap her back, plus the undercurrents of Ethan's mother trying to regain the love she lost when Ethan was small and she left him.
One thing is sure, you are kept on the edge of your seat, trying to keep up with the twists and turns that Perry has crafted. I liked the book on all its different levels. It was easy to see that Ethan and Melissa would eventually end up together, but how they were going to get there, wasn't always clear. All the loose ends are tied up satisfactorily in the end, for the predicted HEA ending. A good read for the romance, the D/S roles and the mother/son relationship.
